Essay re the experience of Willie Boyd at Gray Court Black High School in Laurens County, S.C., from 1943-1954; the school taught all grades; the building had two classrooms and a large auditorium; classes were taught in the school building as well as the tool shed, basement and log cabin on the property; the school's basketball team played inside the auditorium; the male students were released early each day to shop wood for the fires the next day; there was no running water; the school was closed in 1954 and students were bused to other African American schools in Laurens and Clinton, (S.C.).
